Year End Reflections

Yesterday, Providence Moishe House hosted an amazing workshop to explore the relationship between movement and prayer. In essence, we were lead through a one-hour embodied meditation with Rabbinical student Adam Lavitt. The workshop was inspired by the scharit morning service which include the shema and the amidah. We were asked to consider "where do you feel most free?" I took the prompt to have two meanings 1) where in the body do I feel most free? and 2) in what circumstances in your life do you feel most free? Similarly, we were asked to contemplate unity. The exercise was mind-bending, because we struggled with a distinctly Jewish way without using hebrew or traditional prayers. The experience awakened me to the importance of Moishe's mission - enabling and empowering the youth to redefine and rediscover judaism on our own terms.
