What a crazy ride.

Its been a wild ride. In the last month and a half I have graduated college, went on an awesome road trip, moved back to Portland from NYC and moved into the Moishe House! Oh and did I mention that I started working as well. Its been an exciting and emotionally overwhelming time. I'm so happy to be back in Portland and starting a new part of my life, but I didn't expect to miss school as much as I do. There hasn't been a dull moment for me in a while but I'm enjoying life so I can't complain. All this excitement has however made my transition into the House a little slower. I didn't throw any events besides our house meeting in January and I've started February with a super bowl party that I threw together pretty last minute (although it turned out great). With all that being said I learned a lot in the short time I've been here about what it takes to throw a good event. First of all you need to advertise early. Second, flyers are not as easy to make as a I expected, nor to send out. And finally, no matter how much food you think you get, its never enough. I've also met a ton of new people in the short time that I've been back and I already feel integrated into the community. I guess thats a good sign that the house is doing something right already. The other thing I've noticed since I've been back is how wonderful Shabbat is for building community. If nothing else people should know that they always have a place to go for a hearty Shabbat dinner with good people. That is something I would like to work on in the coming months.
