One of my favorite events at Moishe House Silver Spring is our monthly "open shabbat" - we provide a kosher, vegetarian-friendly home-cooked dinner for over 20 young people in our community. Friends and soon-to-be friends show up knowing they'll have some good eating and a very relaxing friday night. We don't eat at a formal table - we eat on chairs and cushions and couches all over the house, in talking laughing chilling groups.
Before the meal we have what we call "living-room style" Kabalat Shabat services where nobody leads and everyone sings and slows down from their busy weeks.
It's not unusual to have folks staying around until all hours of the night. I love the feeling that my home is full of well-fed, happy people.
