2009 here we go...

2009 is finally here. Which leads me to wonder where did 2008 go, and why did it go by so quick? Hopefully anyone reading this email, can agree with me, that for the most part 2008 was a heck of a year for most of us, assuming your life does not revolve around the financial market, the prevention of natural disasters, the anti-genocide movement, no on Prop. 8 campaigning, increase funding for public school education and teachers, a better understanding of where our fruits and vegetables come from, accepting that global warming is here and it is very very scary, acceptance that global violence is getting more extreme every year, the issues of too much imprisonment/homelessness/and drug addiction are matters the US govt. will never take seriously, and Gov. Arnold is a complete joke. Yes, these are all troubling issues, many of them of such inconceivable size, it leaves me to wonder, if not now, then when?

Pessimism and Judaism, ah yessssss, hand in hand. It can't all be that bad, or can it?

Sure, now that we elected Obama, things will begin to change, they have to change, don't they? But are some of these holes so deep and dark and scary, might we never get out of them? Was 2008 the beginning of the end? Or was that 2004, or 1994, or 1984? Well it couldn't have been the 80s, because that's when big hair bands were around, but didn't Bob Marley die in the early 80s?

Only time will tell, let's just hope history does not continue to repeat itself, and it if does, let's hope we can recreate some social upward mobility and civil progress, rather than the bleak global future which sometimes can be seen on the horizon and in the rear view mirror, leaving me to wonder, what are we doing to make a difference RIGHT NOW?!?!
